The theme of the labyrinth is recurrent in my collection of imagery. What is distinctive in my work is that in the structural design itself, the construction, is through forms that premonition the nature of the encounters to which one is exposed at the risk taken by entering. The adventurer is driven through a composition where the walls reveal the nature of those spontaneous but inevitable concurrences. Sometimes the object is death, birth, a monster, or an amazing being that cannot be found but through that unplanned and uncontrolled way. Nevertheless, it will always be found.
The reason for the anchored and immovable relationship between the structure and the essence of what is encountered, is the necessity of its construction. It being the impenetrability and unintelligible constitution of the object. The labyrinth hides but also exposes what is difficult to see.
This subject matter arises from my experiences of immigration to which I was subjected to as a child. I found myself periodically to be the unknown student from abroad, unschooled and unaware from my own family's culture of origin. Being in difficult and stressing situations where I was rejected for my aspect and further repudiated for abjuring to fight back forced me to always be on the run and looking for places to hide out. Yet this experience effected the development of an introspect and observant nature. Because of the constant circumstance of bullying, I took interest in exploring and expressing quietly and safely through creativity. Later I developed a love for Philosophy and Sociology.
